About

Suara Jaya is a Sydney Balinese Gamelan ensemble founded in early 2014. We perform Balinese gamelan music that spans traditional repertoire through to newly composed works, reflecting the tradition of gamelan music practised in Bali as an ongoing and evolving artform.
Many members of Suara Jaya have travelled to Bali for lessons and performances. In this way, Suara Jaya maintains strong links with Balinese musicians and developments in Balinese music.
Suara Jaya is also keen to work with visiting musicians from Bali. In 2014, our group was fortunate to have Made Denis from Denpasar and Dewa Nurjana from Tabanan as guest teachers.

Suara Jaya thanks the Sydney Conservatorium of Music for the use of their semara dana gamelan instruments, the Australian Museum for the use of their gong kebyar gamelan instruments and the University of Sydney for providing a space for rehearsals and performances.
